Correct Heating Installation Method for Precision Rolling Bearings

Heating installation is the most common and scientific method for precision bearing assembly.

Uniform heating expands the bearing inner ring for smooth installation without damaging internal structure.

The heating temperature must be controlled within the standard range to avoid material tempering and hardness reduction.

After installation, natural cooling ensures tight fit between bearing and shaft.

This method maintains bearing precision, reduces assembly stress and avoids early noise and wear problems.

Bearing induction heating equipment

1. SKF TIH Induction Bearing Heater

Induction heater series TIH for bearing shrink-fit assembly.

Built-in temperature sensor & automatic demagnetization system.

Max allowable heating temperature: 120°C, avoid bearing material temper damage.

Suitable for inner ring heating of ball bearings, roller bearings and bushings.

2. Simatherm Compact Induction Heater IH045

Portable small induction heater for light-duty bearings (max weight 45kg).

8-level adjustable heating power, mobile remote control.

Low noise, uniform heating, ideal for workshop small batch mounting.

Thermal Expansion Hot Mounting Principle

Bearings adopt interference fit with shaft.

Heat bearing inner ring to generate thermal expansion, enlarge inner bore diameter.

Slide the expanded bearing onto the shaft rapidly.

When cooling down, the inner ring shrinks back to form tight interference fit, reliable transmission without looseness.

⚠WARNING:Never heat bearing above 120°C. Excess high temperature will soften bearing steel, reduce hardness and service life.

Key rule: Optimal heating gap: 60–100°C above ambient temperature.

Bearings with rubber contact seals shall not exceed 100°C.

Large Bearing Vertical Hot Mounting Operation

Operation specification

1. Use lifting sling to transport heated bearing after heating completed.

2. Complete shaft assembly within 30–60 seconds before temperature drop.

3. Wear high temperature resistant gloves during operation to prevent scald.

4. Do not knock bearing forcibly during installation.

Comparison of Bearing Heating Methods

1. Induction Heater (Recommended Standard)

Advantages: Fast heating, precise temperature control, automatic demagnetization, clean & environmental friendly, no oil pollution.

Disadvantages: Higher one-time equipment cost

2. Oil Bath Heating

Advantages: Low cost, uniform heating for tiny bearings.

Disadvantages: Oil contamination on bearing raceway, residual oil causes lubrication failure risk, oil fume pollution.

3. Open Flame Heating (Strictly Prohibited)

Disadvantages: Local overheating, bearing metal annealing, hardness loss, permanent bearing damage, fire hazard.

⚠SAFETY WARNINGS FOR BEARING HOT MOUNT

1. Maximum safe heating temperature for standard rolling bearings: 120°C.

2. Bearings with rubber seals, nylon cages: Max heating temp ≤100°C.

3. Always use temperature probe to monitor real-time bearing surface temperature.

4. Demagnetize bearing after induction heating to avoid metal debris adsorption.

5. High temperature components may cause scald, wear protective gloves at all times.
